Because being a parent means having to smell way more poop than you ever imagined possible in a very up close and personal way – as B puts it “There’s POOP on me AAARRRGGGGHHH!” – I have tried two products that help me conquer the stench.
The first is one for me. Since having E-bug, I’m no longer inclined to wear my standard perfumes because I think they’re too strong for a little someone who is draped around my neck a good portion of the day (when I’m not at work, sigh). I thought about getting a scent that I know she would enjoy, like citrus or vanilla. But, then I figured those might make her even more hungry than she already is.
Side note: Our little gal seems to be eating 90% of the day. Don’t make us go all Biggest Loser on you Emma. Kidding. I think she’s getting ready to start walking or something. Or going into hibernation. Seriously – the amount of food is astronomical.
Anyway, I popped into Ink & Peat, one of my favorite local shops with all sorts of goodies, and I remembered a line of perfumes that I used to love testing before I was expecting and became hypersensitive in the olfactory department. After trying a few, I settled on Gin Rosewater No. 12 by Tokyo Milk. It’s light, fresh, floral but not heavy, fruity but not make you hungry, and has gin in there somewhere. How great is that?! Sorry Simon – I’d rather be wearing gin these days than drinking it, but cheers. The bottle is pretty and the price tag is really pretty.

The second product I have been using is a room spray. I don’t really use air fresheners and for that I sincerely apologize to our guests. Probably a bad move with poopy diapers, a hubby who runs “hot”, lots of eating veggies and cheese (sorry, Mom, for openly talking about flatulence), and three cats.
I don’t really like the idea of artificially making a room smell like flowers or pumpkin or whatever. Except for the TJ’s orange spray for use in the potty (going to be calling it “the potty” for the next several years so deal with it) and some Lysol in the trash cans here and there, we don’t mask our household scent at all. Candles, you ask? I got over that obsession years ago. Surprisingly, it really cut down on my shopping at Pier One. Do they really have anything other than candle holders there? (I’m sure they do and are very lovely [eye roll].)
Anyway, while shopping at my other favorite store New Seasons I stopped in the household goods aisle for just one second – B usually handles the TP and PTs elsewhere. I saw a bottle of Mrs. Meyer’s Baby Blossom Room Freshener. One sniff and I was sold! It smelled gentle, fresh, clean, but relaxing all at the same time. I probably don’t use it often enough and the scent does not seem to linger around all that long after you spray it, but I figure those are both good things for little E.

So that’s it. Two light and fresh ways to quickly dispel poopy diaper odors from your immediate surroundings without triggering old lady cheap perfume nightmares. Or making you hungry for cupcakes. Have a lovely weekend and stay tuned for more Emma photos. Smile.
PS – everyone head to LRBC for some of their newly prepared jams, syrups and other goodies. I’m eying the Oregon Strawberry Pinot Noir myself. Yummmmm!!!
